The Israeli-owned map company Carta is printing maps of Israel that include the geographical areas of the West Bank and Gaza as parts of a larger state of Israel. The Green Line does not appear on the map. This is of course wishful thinking on the part of the Carta company. The ADC Map and Travel Center in Washington, DC, is displaying such a map. A friend of mine got into a heated argument with the store manager recently, but with no result. I have phoned the store, and was told that they do offer a map of Palestine; however, this does not alleviate the disgraceful outrageousness of the Zionist map. Perhaps Carta would argue that, because the final status agreement has not yet been reached concerning the borders of the future Palestinian state, Carta does not want to produce a map showing a border that will become obsolete. But I would ask them whether commercial profits are more important than truthfulness. Also, Carta would probably point out that they have put all lands belonging to "Area A" in a special color (grey); in my view, however, this design is unacceptable because it can be taken to imply that the specially colored areas alone will comprise the state of Palestine. I think that some sort of action should be taken, probably in regard to Carta rather than against the ADC store. Any suggestions? Or is this a futile cause? Carta's website: http://www.carta.co.il
Carole, I would suggest you do anything you plan to do quietly. Any publicity will probably only help increase their sales. The best thing IMHO is to ignore them.
Alternately, you could take the line that they are advocating a single-state solution. If you put it to them like that, perhaps they will suddenly decide... the map is poorly drawn!
