In a day like this, we have lost a static man who has shaken the world.
The wheel-bound Yassin founded Hamas in 1987 and he was killed three years ago when Israeli F-16 warplanes unleashed three air-to-surface missiles at him while returning home from a nearby mosque after performing Fajr (dawn) prayer.
One of the rockets hit the Sheikh and instantly killed him and two of his companions pushing the chair.
Nine other Palestinian citizens coming out of the mosque were also killed in the raid, and 15 other citizens, including two of the Sheikh’s sons among other citizens were seriously or moderately wounded.
The killing of the wheel-bound Hamas leader spurred waves of massive demonstrations across the world. Around 300,000 Palestinians participated in the funeral of Yassin in Gaza city.
Although he was a disabled man being completely paralyzed and almost blind, Yassin succeeded in igniting the torch of Jihad and the spirit of resistance against the Israeli occupation in the hearts of his people, making him the greatest Palestinian leader the modern history had ever known.
